I built for a city in concrete, then for a country in code.

I'm Zahid. A civil engineer who worked the Dhaka Metro Rail, retrained in IT in Canada, came home to run finance and product at RoveUp, then founded Kormik and DG Serve BD and took the CTO seat at Dream Events Bangladesh.

Few engineers can run a live construction site and audit a ledger. I have done both, and I build the software in between.

Ideas get validated before they get built. Services get a scope before a price. Both start with a call.

Where I have built

Five chapters, one standard.

A metro line, an agency, and three companies. Each one is here because I was accountable for it, not adjacent to it.

The worker was never missing work. He was missing a record.

A digital labour record for the people who build everything and are counted by almost no one. A verified ID on a card he carries like an NID, attendance scanned on site, digital wages and protection built in. The worker works. The client pays. The broker is promoted, not deleted. Founder and CEO; the research behind it is mine.

My story

I am an engineer who did not stop at handover. I started in concrete, as a project engineer on Bangladesh's first metro line, then crossed into technology through a graduate IT programme in Canada and an equity seat at an e-commerce agency back home.

Bangladesh's workforce builds everything and is counted by almost no one, and I have worked that problem from the site and from the founder's chair. Kormik, my research and my startup, digitises the labour chain from tender to wage payment, so national labour data becomes measurable instead of estimated. Countable labour means better planning, less wage theft and a stronger formal tax and GDP base: worker protection and economic growth on the same rail.

Starting over is not romantic. To pay for the retraining I worked the register and kitchen at a Domino's in Mississauga and a gas station in Hamilton, around my classes. Some nights I went from studying systems to cleaning one. I am not embarrassed by that. It is where I learned what I am willing to do to reach something I believe in.

DG Serve BD is a one-stop IT-enabled service company: software, websites, branding and digital marketing under one roof, delivered in Bangla for Bangladeshi businesses and institutions. The change we work on is access. Systems once priced for large firms now reach small businesses, contractors and jobseekers, which is where our work meets inclusive digital infrastructure.

Bangladesh is where they were built. Neither was built to stay inside one border. I am the constant in all of it: the engineer who shows up where the system is missing and builds it.

Kormik

labour infrastructure

The worker was never missing work. He was missing a record.

Kormik turns a day of labour into a permanent, verifiable record that belongs to the worker, not the broker. Verified ID, QR site attendance, digital wages and on-site micro-insurance. The worker works. The client pays.

01

The morning lottery

He waits at the chowk at dawn to be picked. Unchosen by noon, the day is gone: a full wage lost to luck.

02

The unprovable year

On the days he is picked, the work leaves no trace. He cannot contest a wage, claim insurance or qualify for credit. The state cannot count him.

Why now

  • Rails

Mobile money reached the worker's own hand. Paying him digitally was impossible five years ago.

  • Formalisation

National digital ID, maturing finance rules and a real appetite to formalise, all at once.

  • Proof

India's Digital Labour Chowk has put 150,000+ workers to work since 2020, a thousand hired a day, on about $360K of funding.

How the labour market actually works

  1. Organisation
  2. Licensed firm
  3. Client
  4. Broker
  5. Worker

Capital flows down the chain. The record flows up it. Kormik does not insert itself in the chain; it becomes the rail the whole chain runs on.

How it works

  1. 01

    They work

A day of labour, like any other on the chain. Same sardar, same speed.

  2. 02

    It is recorded

Scanned in and out on site. Timestamped, verified, and it cannot be back-dated.

  3. 03

    It is theirs

One record in two forms, paper and phone: a barcoded card he carries like an NID. Bankable, insurable, hireable abroad.

The broker every other platform tries to delete, Kormik promotes. He keeps his network, earns more from a recorded book of business, and gains the track record to grow into a licensed contractor.

One record, three products

For the worker

  • A bank account and a credit history
  • An insurer who can cover him
  • Proof for an employer abroad

For the contractor

  • Verified crews with a show-up record
  • Audit-ready labour compliance for tenders
  • A site accident covered by protection built in
  • Recorded payroll: less cash, less leakage

For the state

  • Labour data that is measured, not estimated
  • A path to a national informal-labour registry
  • Policy that reaches the people it is written for

Why it cannot be caught. Kormik gets harder to displace every month it operates. You cannot back-date a record, protection activates only through the platform, and the broker is a partner, not a casualty.

A category of one

Job boards

White-collar listings.

Service marketplaces

They book a service. Kormik builds an identity. The worker on their platform stays unrecorded.

Phone, cash, the sardar

Fast, familiar, and to a worker not broken. It just leaves no record.

Kormik

Keeps the sardar, keeps the speed, adds the one thing the old way never had: a record the worker owns.

Who it is for

Rakib, a mason

Twelve years of walls and buildings across Dhaka. He stands at the Mohammadpur chowk at dawn and waits to be picked. At the bank the conversation ends at one word: documents. He has the skill. He has never had the paper. That is the person Kormik is built for, from the field research behind it.

Where it goes

  1. ZonesThree Dhaka zones first: Mohammadpur, Adabor and Mirpur, each with a channel in. Construction and municipal labour.
  2. SectorsThen garment support, agriculture, logistics and domestic work.
  3. GeographyDhaka metro, divisional cities, national. Each stage earns the next.

Client services. Digital branding and marketing on one side, software and web builds on the other. Project fees and monthly retainers.

02

Productised software, subscriptions and ebooks at a visible price. Scales without headcount and gives a first-time buyer a low-friction way in.

03

Platforms

Our own products, four in development. Revenue in their own right and the portfolio at the same time. Named when they are live.

Platforms prove capability, which sells Studio work. Studio work funds Platforms. Store products are what a Studio lead buys when they are not ready for a full engagement.

Built and running

A bilingual storefront that goes all the way to a receipt

dg-servebd.com is not a brochure. It carries an order from catalogue to verified payment, issues the invoice and sends the receipt. Bengali is the default on every surface, written as a Dhaka shop owner would say it, not translated.

Anything whose cost cannot be determined up front is a quotation after a meeting. Everything else carries a visible price on the page. There is no third answer.

  • Catalogue and cart across products, subscriptions, services and ebooks
  • Accounts before checkout, so a licence or a multi-week project has a durable identity
  • Hosted payment with verification on return and on webhook
  • Client dashboard for orders, invoices, subscriptions, projects and tickets
  • Receipts and invoices sent only once a payment is confirmed

Software and web

  • Custom software, SaaS products and mobile apps
  • AI automation bots and company finance audit
  • Websites, CMS, SEO, copywriting and maintenance
  • Chatbots for Bangladeshi business pages, Bengali-native rather than translated

Brand, design and content

  • End-to-end digital brand management and ads, Meta first
  • Graphic design for large format and LED: outdoor, promotional and in-store screens
  • Video animation and motion graphics
  • Creatives, infographics and batched social production on a weekly cadence

Recent Studio work, clothing retail: graphic design and video animation for outdoor LED, promotional LED and in-store television, each sized and timed for its surface rather than one asset stretched across all three.

Three ways to buy

Own it

Licences and ebooks, bought once. Pay, get an invoice, receive it immediately. Contractor tools such as Smart Thikadar and Nirman sit here.

Subscribe

Monthly systems with a trial before conversion. No invoice is issued until somebody actually subscribes.

Commission it

Custom work has no price at order time. Request, scope call, quotation, then an invoice. Nothing starts before it is agreed.

How we build

  • Row-level security on every table, keyed to the signed-in user
  • Secrets in a managed store, never in the repository, never in client-side code
  • HTTPS enforced; payment and authentication pages served no-store
  • Card details never touch our systems; payment runs through a hosted gateway
  • Money moves on confirmed state only, and every write on that path tolerates a retry
  • Open-redirect protection on authentication flows

Where a client needs more: independent penetration testing and a security review on request, as a priced deliverable.

Mobile first, for a mid-range Android on an ordinary connection. Inputs at sixteen pixels or larger, touch targets at forty-four or larger, and a designed loading and empty state for every surface that waits on data.

Not public yet

Four platforms are in active development, each a product in its own right and a demonstration at the same time. They are named on the company site when they are live, not before. What is public today is not the whole company.

How an engagement starts

  1. 01

    A conversation

What the business actually needs, before anyone talks about a solution.

  2. 02

    A written scope

What ships, in what order, and what is explicitly not included.

  3. 03

    A quotation

A real number against that scope. Nothing starts before it is agreed.

  4. 04

    Build and hand over

Delivered with the code, the access and the documentation that go with it.

Have a product or an idea?

We sign an NDA before you say the second sentence. Then we validate it: the market, the model, and the smallest version worth building. If it holds, we build it with you.

Need a service instead? Send the problem. You get a scope and a price, not a pitch.

From Invisible to Countable: A Design Science Investigation of Digital Labour Infrastructure for Bangladesh's Informal Workforce

Independent, Dhaka · 2026

Research preview
Question
Can a portable, worker-owned labour record bring the roughly 60 million people in Bangladesh's informal economy into formal finance, insurance and hiring, without removing the intermediaries the market runs on?
Method
Design-science cycle: field work across three Dhaka zones with workers, sardars and contractors; artefact design; iteration against what the field pushed back on. Five product-shaping findings are already built into Kormik.
Outcome
The Kormik platform is the artefact. The public site stands as the research preview until the study is complete.

Investigation of Shear Strengthening of RC Beams Using Steel Plate and Embedded Bar

University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka · supervisor Dr. Ashraful Alam · 2021 – 2022

Question
Which retrofitting method gives an existing reinforced-concrete beam more shear capacity for the effort: external steel plates, or embedded bars?
Method
Prepared test specimens and loading setups, measured the shear-capacity improvement from each method, and compared the two on performance and on practicality on site.
Outcome
A measured comparison of the two methods, and a view on when each one earns its cost.
